Overview:
This $75 million State and Federal Government funded project will have the capacity to provide more than 3.8 billion litres of high quality recycled water annually. In addition to supplying existing customers, the project will provide a minimum of 1.3 billion litres each year to irrigate the Adelaide Park Lands. This landmark project will provide a sustainable long-term solution for watering the Park Lands and can provide opportunities for the development of additional recycled water initiatives.

It is a key project under the Government's 4-way strategy to secure our future water needs.
The four strategies cover:
  • Water Use
  • Desalination
  • Recycling
  • Catchments

This project is being delivered by the CityGreen Alliance, which comprises SA Water, United Water, Leed Engineering and Construction, Leighton Services and Guidera O'Connor.

Project Outcomes:
Once complete, this project will;
  • Increase the volume of wastewater recycled at Glenelg Waste Water Treatment Plant  by more than three times
  • Reduce discharges of treated wastewater to the Gulf St Vincent
  • Reduce dependence on potable water sources from the Adelaide Hills catchment and the River Murray
  • Improve the health of the River Torrens and quality of the water in the Torrens Lake
  • Enhance Adelaide's image as a green city
  • Provide the backbone infrastructure for additional water conservation projects, such as water for toilet flushing and for use in commercial developments.
