The Australian Defence Force
According to the Australian Defence Force (ADF), our country has three major defence priorities. The first of these is to maintain the capability to defend Australian territory from any credible attack, without relying on help from the combat forces of any other country.
The second priority is to contribute to the security of Australia's immediate neighbourhood through working with neighbouring countries and participating in United Nations-sanctioned peacekeeping operations.
The third priority for the ADF is to contribute to international coalitions of forces outside of Australia's immediate neighbourhood where Australian interests are engaged. The ADF is also responsible for contributing to coastal surveillance and responding to emergencies, including natural disasters.
These priorities are to be carried out under a current budget of AUD$26.9 Billion.

Defending South Australia
South Australia is Australia's 'defence state' and is the high-technology centre for the nation's defence industry.
The State has top scientific, research and educational institutions, a highly skilled workforce and state-of-the-art infrastructure – all contributing to a defence industry that delivers specialist services and products for the Australian Defence Force and other defence forces around the world.
South Australia has a track record of winning and delivering major defence projects. In the past five years it has secured billions of dollars worth of new defence and security projects that will provide opportunities for some years.
Smart Fabrication & Defence
Smart Fabrication is proud of its South Australian heritage. Being part of the defence state, we go to great lengths to ensure that we too are well equipped, well prepared, and well situated – in short, we are "Defence Ready".
Smart Fabrication is well equipped for defence contracts with our new 30,000 square metre site. Of this, 6,000 square metres are undercover, and this comprises 5 workshops.
Our capabilities include:
Smart Fabrication is well prepared, having previously conducted jobs for both the Australian Submarine Corporation and the Air Warfare Destroyer project. In addition, Smart Fab is taking on projects of ever-increasing scope, such as our recent work on multi-billion dollar water infrastructure projects. Smart Fabrication is also an Australian Defence Organisation 'Defence Recognised Supplier', and an active contributing member of the Defence Teaming Centre.
All of our projects adhere to rigorous ISO-9001 quality standards, and we are working towards achieving ISO-3834 welding standards in the next 12 months. Our medium term plan also includes ISO Environmental standards and Occupational Health & Safety Standards. All of this is part of our culture of continuous improvement, ensuring that all work is carried out the highest quality standards.
Smart Fabrication is also well situated. At the new site in Port Adelaide we now have access to five slipways and around 150 metres of water frontage. Further, this prime location is just over 3 kilometres by sea to the state's defence hub, Techport Australia.
Together, all of these factors ensure that Smart Fabrication truly is "Defence Ready".
